PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa General Secretary Malik Saeed Khan has criticized recent remarks by Rana Sanaullah and Amir Muqam regarding the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and President Asif Ali Zardari, saying criticism of the programme amounts to an insult to poor and deserving families.
In a statement, Malik Saeed Khan said BISP is a vital social protection initiative that supports millions of deserving families and has also received international recognition and assistance. He said while administrative issues can be addressed, the dignity of beneficiaries should not be targeted for political purposes.
Responding to criticism from political opponents, he said the PPP has always stood for the rights of the poor, workers, farmers, women and marginalized communities. He also defended President Asif Ali Zardari, describing him as a leader with a long democratic struggle whose political standing cannot be undermined by political statements.
Malik Saeed Khan reaffirmed that the Pakistan Peoples Party would continue to support welfare programmes for the poor and protect the dignity and rights of vulnerable sections of society.
