BRUSSELS: Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, expressed confidence in the positive prospects of Morocco’s partnership with the European Union (EU) during the 15th session of the Morocco–EU Association Council in Brussels. The meeting comes ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Morocco-EU Association Agreement, highlighting three decades of solid and diversified cooperation.
Minister Bourita underscored Morocco’s role as a stable and reliable partner, emphasizing both political and economic collaboration. He noted that Morocco remains the EU’s leading trading partner south of the Mediterranean and in Africa, and that the partnership serves as a model for future EU–southern neighborhood relations.
The EU, represented by High Representative Kaja Kallas, affirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Morocco, focusing on migration, security, regional stability, and Morocco’s role in international initiatives, including the UN Human Rights Council and the Global Alliance on Gaza. Kallas also welcomed Morocco’s experience in combating terrorism and radicalization, and highlighted the EU’s new common position on the Moroccan Sahara following the UN Security Council resolution.
The joint communiqué recognized His Majesty King Mohammed VI as a pivotal figure in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, particularly through the Al-Quds Committee and the Initiative for Atlantic African States, aimed at fostering regional cooperation and economic integration across 23 African Atlantic-bordering countries.
The Association Council was attended by EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica, foreign ministers from Spain, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Malta, and senior representatives from all EU member states, reflecting Morocco’s prominent role in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership.
