Speakers recall Cuba’s support for Pakistan and call for deeper bilateral cooperation

ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Cuba, in collaboration with the Pak-Cuba Social Forum, organized a photo exhibition titled “Fidel Forever” in Islamabad to commemorate the birth centenary of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed attended the event as the chief guest, while Turkmenistan’s Ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Atadjan Movlamov, was the guest of honour. Diplomats, academics, civil society members, and friends of Cuba also participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Mushahid described Fidel Castro as one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century, praising his contributions to education, healthcare, science, and social justice. He said Castro’s legacy continues to inspire people around the world.
Cuban Ambassador H.E. Damián Cordero welcomed the guests and highlighted Fidel Castro’s vision of international solidarity. He also noted Cuba’s recent diplomatic success at the United Nations regarding the longstanding US blockade.
Pak-Cuba Social Forum President Ramzan Mughal paid tribute to Fidel Castro and reaffirmed the strong friendship between Pakistan and Cuba. He recalled Cuba’s humanitarian assistance during Pakistan’s 2005 earthquake, including the deployment of medical teams and scholarships for Pakistani students.
The exhibition showcased historic photographs of Fidel Castro’s life, humanitarian efforts, and milestones in Pakistan-Cuba relations. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening cultural, social, and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.
