BAJAUR:”Nutritious Food, Healthy Mothers and Children, Prosperous Pakistan” — with this inspiring slogan, a dedicated campaign has been officially launched in Bajaur to promote positive social and individual behaviors regarding balanced nutrition for women and children.
As part of this initiative, a one-day awareness seminar was organized through the joint efforts of the Benazir Nashonuma Program, the Health Department, the World Food Programme (WFP), and UNICEF. The event brought together a large number of lady health workers, healthcare professionals, and community representatives from across the district.
The seminar was presided over by District Health Officer Dr. Gohar Ayub, while Deputy DHO Dr. Ajmal Khan, LHW Coordinator Dr. Arif Khan, Nashonuma Program Coordinator Luqman Hakim, and District Nutrition Manager Salahuddin also addressed the audience and shared their insights.
Speaking at the seminar, health experts emphasized:
A balanced diet strengthens the immune system. A healthy mother is the foundation of a healthy generation.”
hey urged that children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and adolescent girls should include at least five types of foods in their daily meals — such as lentils, vegetables, fruits, grains, milk, and meat. They highlighted that breast milk is a complete source of nutrition for infants, yet malnutrition remains a serious challenge in underprivileged regions like Bajaur.
The participants were informed that under the Benazir Nashonuma Program, women and children are not only being educated about the importance of nutritious food, but also encouraged through financial assistance to access healthier meals. Lady health workers were particularly instructed to go door-to-door, raising awareness among women about balanced diets and identifying individuals — especially mothers and children — suffering from malnutrition.
The seminar concluded with a symbolic walk titled “Towards a Nutritionally Strong Pakistan”, aimed at raising public awareness and encouraging community engagement.
This campaign brings a ray of hope — that with consistency, transparency, and active community participation, the future generation of Bajaur can be not only healthier but also smarter, more confident, and truly prosperous.
