KOHAT: A planning meeting was held in Kohat district to make preparation for the upcoming campaign on Social Behavior Change (SBC) regarding dietary diversity with the Focal Person SBC Syed Saqlain Mustafa in the chair at the office of DHO Kohat under the auspices of UNICEF, WFP and the Health Department.
The campaign will be conducted at various locations in the Kohat district for a month. Key stakeholders also attended the meeting and detailed discussions were held on the strategy, individual and institutional roles and coordination mechanisms to ensure its effective implementation.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairperson Dr. Haroon Public Health Coordinator, Dr. Saqib, Afshan Ghafoor Lady Health Worker Kohat and Dr. Mohabbat Ali Coordinator EPI said, for better and proper nutrition of mothers and children, better health and good life, positive individual and social behavior, different types of food are very important for good health. Daily meals must include at least 5 types of food including pulses, vegetables, fruits, grains, milk and meat. They said that pregnant and lactating women have a special need for a varied diet and they should be given mostly meat, eggs, vegetables, yogurt and pulses in their diet.
They continued, after the age of 6 months, soft, fresh and different foods should be given to children along with the breast milk so that the child can develop well. They furthered that seasonal and indigenous foods can also be healthy for the mother’s health, expensive food is not necessary. They stressed to make your dish plate colorful with different foods adding that all foods have its own benefits.
Meanwhile, an awareness walk was also organized outside the DHO office, Kohat in this regard, which besides the staff from health and other related institutions, was largely participated by the clerical staff, paramedical staff, lady health supervisor staff and other workers.
