ISLAMABAD: More than one million citizens have registered for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Fuel Relief Programme within its first three days, marking a major milestone in the nationwide digital delivery of the scheme. The figure has also been reported by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication.
The Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA), in collaboration with the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, has developed the digital infrastructure for the programme, covering CNIC-linked registration, eligibility verification, fuel-token generation, redemption at participating fuel stations and scheme management.
The digital system was developed in coordination with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), Petroleum Division and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), along with provincial and local administrations.
The government has allocated Rs75 billion for the fuel relief scheme, which provides targeted assistance to eligible users of motorcycles, three-wheelers and cars up to 800cc. The scheme provides relief of up to Rs100 per litre for eligible beneficiaries.
The PDA said the registration milestone demonstrates how digital public infrastructure can facilitate rapid, nationwide delivery of government relief programmes.
The system is designed to bring registration, eligibility verification and fuel subsidy redemption into a single digitally managed framework, with the aim of ensuring transparent and efficient delivery of relief to eligible citizens.
