In such circumstances, it becomes a significant challenge for any state not only to safeguard its national interests but also to play a responsible and dignified role within the global community. Observing Pakistan’s recent diplomatic engagements, it can be argued that the country is steadily moving toward a balanced, proactive, and effective foreign policy.
To begin with, Pakistan’s relations with United States reflect a notable improvement. After a period of relative strain, there is now visible warmth and renewed engagement between the two countries. Connections associated with former U.S. President Donald Trump, along with ongoing diplomatic interactions, have contributed to rebuilding trust. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan has attempted to expand its ties with the United States beyond traditional security cooperation to include trade, investment, and regional stability. This approach demonstrates a shift toward a more comprehensive and forward-looking diplomatic strategy.
At the same time, Pakistan’s relationship with Iran remains a crucial and sensitive component of its foreign policy. Continued engagement on border management, energy cooperation, and regional peace highlights Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining stability with its neighbor. Strong ties with Iran not only contribute to regional harmony but also reinforce Pakistan’s diplomatic independence.
