Ottawa: The Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa, along with the Consulates General in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, observed Kashmir Solidarity Day to reaffirm solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K) and their just struggle for the right to self-determination in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The events were attended by members of the Pakistani community as well as friends and supporters of Pakistan and the Kashmir cause. Special messages from the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out on the occasion.
Documentaries highlighting the Kashmiri struggle were screened and broadcast through social media, local electronic outlets, and ethnic media. Informational material underscoring the plight of the Kashmiri people in IIOJ&K was also distributed. A series of activities, including a pictorial exhibition and media interaction, were organized to spotlight ongoing human rights violations and to express solidarity with Kashmiris enduring oppression under illegal Indian occupation.
Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem stated that Kashmiris in IIOJ&K have faced relentless repression, including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, communication blackouts, and forced demographic changes. He paid rich tribute to the resilience and courage of the Kashmiri people in the face of prolonged hardships.
Reiterating Pakistan’s principled stance, the High Commissioner emphasized that a peaceful and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute can only be achieved through the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, through a free and fair plebiscite.
He further stressed the urgent need for the international community to play its due role in ensuring justice and accountability, calling upon it to uphold international law, respect human rights, and work towards a just, durable, and peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute by persuading India to implement UN Security Council resolutions.
