Islamabad: Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education of the Netherlands, reinforcing bilateral cooperation on water resources management and capacity building.

The agreement was formalized in Islamabad on February 16 during a high-level event hosted by Federal Minister Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, with the Dutch delegation led by Prof. Graham Jewitt, Vice Rector and Academic Director of IHE Delft, accompanied by Associate Professor Dr. Ilyas Masih, Ambassador Robert-Jan Siegert, and Deputy Head of Mission Hajo Provó Kluit of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

This partnership aims to strengthen Pakistan-Netherlands collaboration on climate-resilient water management through enhanced training, research, workshops, and professional development for officials and engineers from the Ministry and its affiliated bodies. The MoU emphasizes integrated water resources planning, development, and sustainable management to better confront climate impacts, flood risks, and future water security needs.

During the delegation’s visit, engagements with leading water-sector universities, disaster risk management institutions, and key stakeholders will further support knowledge exchange and institutional capacity strengthening across Pakistan.

This collaboration builds on decades of cooperative efforts between Pakistan and the Netherlands in water governance and technical expertise — particularly in areas critical for climate adaptation and sustainable planning for a water-secure future.
