An important meeting of the Central Standing Committee on Import and Export Trade of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) was held under the chairmanship of Convener Tahir Rashid Bhatta. The meeting was attended by respected committee members, industrialists, and trade experts.
Speaking on the occasion, Convener Tahir Rashid Bhatta said that Pakistan’s economy has entered a critical yet opportunity-rich phase, where there is a need to move beyond traditional policies and adopt strategic and sustainable measures. He emphasized that the country must shift away from relying solely on stabilization programs, particularly the IMF, and instead focus on export-led growth, industrial competitiveness, and productivity.
Deputy Convener Syed Usman Tahir Shah, while addressing the meeting, stated that Pakistan must now prioritize increasing production and exports rather than raising taxes in order to achieve economic stability.
Deputy Convener Ms. Samia Rashid said that the time has come to transform Pakistan into a strong, competitive, and export-oriented economy.
Deputy Convener Syed Zulfiqar Haider Shah, while giving examples of China and India, noted that China strengthened its position in the global supply chain through the “China + 1” strategy, while India made significant progress in the pharmaceutical, engineering, and IT sectors. In contrast, Pakistan still relies on limited export sectors, particularly textiles. He stressed that Pakistan must align its trade policy with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On this occasion, FPCCI Vice President Muhammad Raziq, Chairman Coordination Malik Sohail Hussain, Chairman Capital Office Karim Aziz Malik, along with Rukhsar Ahmed Askari, Rana Farrukh Ilyas, Muzaffar Wahaj, Ahsan Javed, Naveed Akhtar, Waheed Ashraf, Ehsanullah, Osama Ilyas, Zubair Ahmed, Sharjeel Ehsan, Huzaifa Ehsan, Osama Wahab, Faisal Rashid, Hina Zulfiqar, Muaz Bukhari, Ahmed Naeem, and business community members from various sectors also participated in the meeting.
