PESHAWAR:
Former spokesperson of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and senior lawyer Muhammad Muazzam Butt has strongly criticized the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices, terming it an “anti-people” decision by the federal government.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Muazzam Butt said the government has raised the price of petrol to Rs378 per litre and diesel to Rs520 per litre, placing what he described as an unbearable burden on the poor and exposing the government’s incompetence.
He said that due to flawed economic policies, unemployment and inflation have already crippled the common man, and the latest hike would further aggravate the economic crisis. “This decision will have direct consequences on the lives of ordinary citizens,” he stated, adding that it would lead to reduced purchasing power, increased educational expenses, and greater difficulty in meeting basic needs.
Criticizing the rulers for their indifference, he said the move reflects a disturbing level of insensitivity towards public hardships.
Muazzam Butt demanded that the government immediately withdraw the increase in fuel prices and take concrete steps to provide relief to the people.
