PESHAWAR: U.S. Consul General Tom Eckert met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Additional Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Archaeology and Museums Rahim Ullah Mehsud and Director General Archaeology and Museums Dr. Abdul Samad at the Taxila Museum in connection with International Museums Day.
During a visit to the museum’s historic collection, the officials discussed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s rich cultural heritage, the peaceful coexistence of different faiths during the Gandhara civilization, the importance of religious freedom, and the province’s vast tourism potential.
Rahim Ullah Mehsud highlighted the KP government’s commitment to preserving archaeological sites and promoting cultural tourism, noting that the province’s historical treasures offer significant opportunities for educational and economic development.
The participants also discussed ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and the United States in preserving cultural heritage. They appreciated joint efforts that facilitated the return of hundreds of cultural artifacts to the Islamabad Museum, helping safeguard history for future generations.
The visit underscored the importance of protecting cultural heritage and promoting greater awareness of Pakistan’s rich historical legacy.
