Peshawar:
A delegation of the Barha Political Alliance, led by President Hashim Khan Afridi, held an important meeting with Dr. Ibadullah Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly. Former Member of the Provincial Assembly Shafiq Sher Afridi was also present.
The meeting involved detailed and serious discussions on the Tiraah operation, forced displacement, and the severe issues faced by the affected people. The delegation expressed deep concern over the organized propaganda campaign surrounding the Tiraah operation and said that shifting the responsibility of such a sensitive matter to the federal government is an attempt to evade the truth.
Participants pointed out that political interference and corruption in the registration process of the affected people are widespread, depriving the genuine victims of their basic rights. Dr. Ibadullah Khan stated that the Chief Minister’s request for donations is essentially an attempt to cover up his failures and corruption, and that the provincial government has yet to provide any practical assistance to the Tiraah victims.
He further added that false narratives and misleading impressions are being spread on social media by PTI, which contradict the ground realities. Dr. Ibadullah Khan emphasized that the issues of Tiraah victims should be addressed beyond political considerations. Participants recalled that all relevant parties were present at the jirga held on September 25, and that turning away from responsibility after granting permission for the operation is incomprehensible.
The meeting agreed that restoring law and order and taking immediate and effective measures for Tiraah victims should be top priorities. The delegation noted that the National Jirga rejected the provincial government’s policies, and despite several jirgas with the government, broken promises have further worsened the situation.
Finally, the delegation demanded that political narratives be set aside and practical, serious, and immediate steps be taken to provide genuine relief to the Tiraah victims.
