ISLAMABAD:Ambassador Albert P. Khorev held a briefing for Pakistani journalists on the situation in and around Ukraine, outlining Russia’s position on the ongoing conflict and related diplomatic developments.

The Ambassador described the conflict as part of a broader geopolitical confrontation and stated that, according to Russia’s assessment, the current situation on the front line is favorable to Russian forces. He also highlighted what he characterized as intensified Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory and civilian infrastructure.

He noted that diplomatic contacts continue and that several rounds of talks have taken place in 2026, resulting in limited but meaningful humanitarian progress, including prisoner exchanges. Reaffirming Russia’s position, the Ambassador said Moscow remains open to a negotiated settlement; however, he emphasized that any sustainable agreement must address what Russia considers the root causes of the crisis, including security concerns and broader regional issues.

Addressing humanitarian matters, Ambassador Khorev commented on the issue of children affected by the conflict. He rejected claims circulating in Western media that thousands of Ukrainian children had been forcibly transferred to Russia, stating that such figures are politically motivated and do not reflect verified data. He referred to discussions held during direct Russia-Ukraine talks in 2025, during which a list of 339 children was provided by the Ukrainian side. He added that Russia has been working to facilitate family reunifications and that, as of early March 2026, several children have been reunited with their relatives, with efforts continuing in coordination with international partners.

Responding to media questions regarding developments in the Middle East, the Ambassador condemned recent escalation in the region and called for restraint. He emphasized the importance of political and diplomatic solutions, respect for sovereignty, and dialogue as the basis for long-term stability. He stressed that regional security must take into account the interests of all states involved and warned against further actions that could heighten tensions or destabilize the broader region.

The Ambassador concluded by reiterating Russia’s commitment to diplomatic engagement and its readiness to continue dialogue aimed at achieving durable and mutually acceptable solutions.
