Lahore:Former Pakistan women’s cricket captain Sana Mir created history on Monday as she became the first female cricketer from Pakistan to be inducted into the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Hall of Fame.
Sana was one of seven distinguished cricketers honoured by the ICC this year, alongside India’s MS Dhoni, Australia’s Matthew Hayden, New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, England’s Sarah Taylor, and South Africa’s Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith.
The ICC commended Mir for her stellar contribution to white-ball cricket, noting that she claimed over 200 international wickets, a record that places her among the game’s elite. “Sana was renowned not only for her impact on the field but also for her meaningful work off the field,” the council said in its statement.
In addition to her cricketing accolades, Mir has been a strong advocate against body shaming, a champion for mental health, and a dedicated humanitarian during the Covid-19 crisis.
Reflecting on the honour, the ICC quoted Sana as saying she had “fulfilled a childhood dream” by entering the Hall of Fame.
Her induction marks a milestone moment for women’s cricket in Pakistan and signals growing recognition of female athletes on the world stage.
