Karachi: DIG Security & Emergency Services Division Dr. Maqsood Ahmed has authored a comprehensive Security Training Handbook (Volume-I) to strengthen and modernise police and security training in Pakistan. The handbook was formally launched at the SSU Headquarters in Karachi. Dr. Maqsood Ahmed currently serves in the Sindh Police and previously served in the Pakistan Navy before joining the Police Service of Pakistan. He completed his PhD in Terrorism Financing from Northumbria University, UK where his research focused on financial networks linked to terrorism in Pakistan. His academic expertise and professional experience have contributed to his efforts to modernise policing including the establishment of highly trained police commandos the Special Security Unit (SSU).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Maqsood Ahmed described the launch of the handbook as one of the biggest milestones of his professional career. He said his academic journey, particularly his PhD research, inspired him to compile practical policing knowledge into a structured training manual for future generations of law-enforcement officers. He said Security Training Handbook (Volume-I) had been developed in response to the evolving nature of terrorism, cyber threats, emergency response and contemporary security challenges, adding that traditional police training alone was no longer sufficient to meet the demands of modern law enforcement.
Addressing the ceremony, IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho said modern policing was the need of the hour and described the publication as a significant contribution towards strengthening the professional capacity of the Sindh Police. He appreciated the academic and professional dedication demonstrated by Dr. Maqsood Ahmed congratulated him and the entire team involved in preparing the handbook. He said the handbook would greatly benefit police training institutions and law-enforcement organisations throughout the country.
While Former IGPs Aamir Zulfiqar, Syed Kaleem Imam and Ghulam Nabi Memon, Consul General of Russia Andrey Fedorov, DIG Training Faizullah Korejo, Syed Tariq Mustafa also reviewed the publication during the ceremony. They unanimously described the handbook as a landmark achievement and an important milestone for modern policing saying it would serve as a valuable reference for police training institutions and specialised security academies across Pakistan.
