PESHAWAR: In yet another alarming incident highlighting the growing threats to journalists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, unidentified assailants opened fire at the residence of Shahroom, a senior broadcaster affiliated with different media outlets including FM radio channels. The attack took place in Swabi district.

According to reports, this is the second targeted attack on Shahroom and his House within two months. He had earlier survived a life-threatening assault on June 5, during which he sustained serious injuries.

Shahroom is known for hosting radio programs and news bulletins where he frequently criticized incidents of extremism and lawlessness.

Journalists’ unions and media rights organizations have condemned the repeated attacks, calling them part of a disturbing pattern of violence against media professionals and their families across the country.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of journalists, particularly those working in conflict-prone regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The media community continues to urge the government to ensure protection for journalists and take strict action against those attempting to silence critical voices.
