ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Pakistan has officially launched National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) card services for Somali citizens residing in the country.

Ambassador Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan presided over the launch, marking a major step in strengthening consular services and streamlining documentation for the Somali community in Pakistan.

“This vital initiative ensures our citizens have easy access to official documentation, essential for legal status, administrative processes, and accessing various services,” said Ambassador Hassan. “We encourage all Somali nationals in Pakistan to make use of this service to regularize their identification.”

The NIRA card serves as the primary proof of identity and nationality for Somali citizens, both domestically and abroad. Its issuance from the Islamabad embassy will simplify bureaucratic procedures for students, businesspeople, and families, facilitating everything from residency formalities to financial transactions.

The embassy has advised applicants to prepare supporting documents, including previous identification and proof of Somali citizenship, and to contact the consular section for guidance on application procedures, fees, and appointments.

This expansion of consular functions reflects the Somali government’s commitment to its diaspora, and the initiative has been warmly welcomed by the Somali community in Pakistan, with special appreciation for Ambassador Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan’s dedicated efforts in making this service a reality.
