PESHAWAR: A series of competitive matches in hockey, volleyball and basketball were played under the ongoing Merged Tribal Districts Under-16 Games organized by the Directorate of Sports Merged Districts, with young athletes displaying remarkable talent and sportsmanship.
In the opening volleyball fixture, Mohmand Sub-Division secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Peshawar, winning 25-13 and 25-12 in straight sets. In another match, Orakzai Sub-Division dominated Lakki Sub-Division with identical scores of 25-11, 25-11.
Hockey matches at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium witnessed intense competition. Tank Sub-Division edged past Lakki Sub-Division 2-1, while Bannu recorded a comfortable 3-0 win against Mohmand. Bajaur delivered a commanding performance, defeating Kurram 6-0 in the third match.
In basketball, District Bajaur defeated Orakzai 25-15. Sub-Division Kohat outplayed District Mohmand 30-18, while South Waziristan Upper triumphed over South Waziristan Lower 25-18 to advance to the next round.
Director Sports Merged Districts, Umar Arshad Khan, graced the occasion as chief guest. He was accompanied by Deputy Director Sports Zakirullah, Chief Coach Shafqatullah, Deputy Director Ameer Zahid Shah, Assistant Director Muhammad Ayub, AD Muhammad Imran, DSO Awan Hussain and other officials.
More than 1,000 athletes from eight tribal districts and seven sub-divisions are participating in various sporting disciplines during the games.
According to the organizers, the primary objective of the event is to promote sports culture in the merged districts and provide structured opportunities for emerging youth talent. Officials also announced plans to organize Women’s Games, Madaress Games and Minority Games in the near future to further broaden inclusive sports participation.
Under the event schedule, Under-16 cricket matches will be held at Hayatabad Sports Complex, football fixtures at Tahmas Khan Football Ground, hockey and basketball competitions at Peshawar Sports Complex, and volleyball matches at the PSB Hall, Peshawar.
