PESHAWAR: Former lawmaker and member Board of Directors Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) Bibi Fauzia said on Sunday that the Tirich Mir Summit and trekking to its base camp would not only provide opportunities for new climbers in the future but would also strengthen the economy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly Chitral.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Tirich Mir Trekking event organised by the KPCTA, she said that the summit and trekking initiative were launched on the personal interest and directives of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
A group of 20 trekkers has departed for Tirich Mir, including participants from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab and other regions. More than 500 men and over 100 women had applied for the summit and trekking.
The plan for the Tirich Mir Summit was proposed by the KPCTA and was developed through comprehensive planning, ensuring benefits for the local community.
Present at the event were Director Admin and Finance Umar Arshad Khan, Events Manager Muhammad Ali Syed, officials of the Tirich Mir Backpackers Club, trekkers and others.
Three separate groups would undertake the Tirich Mir trek in different phases, including female trekkers. For the first time, the government has officially taken steps to summit Tirich Mir, the highest peak in the Hindu Kush mountain range, at an official level.
This step would not only attract international mountaineers in the future but would also encourage Pakistani climbers to summit the Tirich Mir.
Director Admin and Finance Umar Khan expressed happiness at the strong interest shown by youth in the summit, saying that these young participants would also take part in a tree-planting campaign during the trek, planting saplings at various locations.
