Karachi: Police have arrested two suspected house robbers in connection with a series of robberies in Manghopir, including the killing of 15-year-old Rosham Hussain during a house robbery, prompting his family to end a nearly 20-day protest demanding the arrest of those responsible.
The arrests were confirmed by Rosham’s father, Roidad Hussain, who said police had apprehended the main suspect and that Rosham’s mother identified him. Following the arrests, the family called off its protest outside the Manghopir police station.
Rosham’s funeral prayers were offered and he was laid to rest on Sunday, nearly 20 days after he was shot dead during a robbery at his home. A Hafiz-e-Quran, Rosham was 15 years old and the only brother of eight sisters. He was allegedly shot dead when armed robbers entered his house during the night between September 7 and 8.
According to police, District West police arrested two suspects, identified as Dilawar alias Tariq and Muhammad Rizwan alias Asif alias Raju, for their alleged involvement in house robberies in Manghopir. The arrests were made by a police team constituted on the directives of SSP West Tariq Ilahi Mastoi.
Police said a fake police uniform allegedly used during the robberies was recovered from the suspects. Dilawar alias Tariq had previously been nominated in another house robbery case registered in Manghopir, while a complainant in another robbery case also identified the arrested suspects, police said. Both suspects were also allegedly involved in Rosham’s killing during the September 8 house robbery.
Rosham’s family had been staging a protest outside the Manghopir police station for nearly 20 days, demanding the arrest of those responsible for his killing. The protest was called off after the suspects were arrested, while the teenager’s funeral prayers and burial were held on Sunday.
