MALAKAND:Celebration of World Refugee Day at University of Malakand:
ORIC, in collaboration with UNHCR, organized World Refugee Day on June 20, 2025, as designated by the United Nations. Objective of the event was to honor the courage, resilience, and contributions of refugees, while also shedding light on the ongoing challenges they face.
The event was participated by Afghan students from various departments of the University of Malakand, along with community elders from Chakdara and Timergara refugee camps, and representatives from SHARP and UNHCR. Mr. Waqas Ahmad, representing Afghan students, shared inspiring success stories while highlighting the issues and challenges they face. UNHCR representatives, Mr. Sahibzada Muhammad Younas and Mr. Muzaffar Khan, assured students of their commitment to addressing these challenges. They also expressed gratitude to UoM’s top management and the ORIC team for their support to Afghan students.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rashid Ahmad reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing equal opportunities to all students, including refugees, with special quotas allocated in each department. The event was gracefully hosted by Dr. Mazhar Ahmad, with contributions from Maqsood Mazhar, Manager ORIC, Mr. Sajid Khan, Communication and Publication Specialist, Mr. Mairaj ul Hamid Nasri; Public Relations Officer and Mr. Jamil Anwar Abbasi from the Youth Development Center, University of Malakand.
