MALAKAND: The Green Youth Movement Club and Youth Development Center of the University of Malakand, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and the Higher Education Commission (HEC), organized an awareness walk to commemorate the International Day for Biological Diversity under the theme, “Acting Locally for Global Impact.”

The event was led by Vice Chancellor of the University of Malakand, Prof Dr Rashid Ahmad, and attended by faculty members from the Department of Botany, including Prof Dr Nasrullah, Dr Atta Ullah, Dr Saeed Safi, and Ms Dilnaz from the Department of Zoology. Also present were Mr Muhammad Ayub Khan, Focal Person of the Green Youth Movement Club, Mr Jamil Anwar Abbasi, Facilitator of the Youth Development Center, and a large number of students.

Addressing the participants, Prof Dr Rashid Ahmad emphasized that biodiversity conservation is a shared responsibility and called for greater efforts to protect flora and fauna, ensure proper waste disposal, promote efficient water use, and address the challenges posed by climate change.

He said universities must serve as centers of environmental stewardship by translating academic knowledge into practical local actions that contribute to a sustainable future.

The awareness walk concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices, pledging to promote environmental responsibility on campus and within their communities.
