Milan remained at the centre of global sporting attention as the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games concluded after weeks of high-level competition and international engagement.

Dr. Zsuzsa Csisztu, AIPS Vice President, AIPS Presidential Candidate, former Olympic athlete and veteran sports journalist, attended the Games, describing the experience as both professionally enriching and personally inspiring.

Reflecting on her journey, Dr. Csisztu noted that the Olympic Games represent far more than athletic competition. With two decades devoted to gymnastics and extensive experience covering multiple Winter Olympics as a commentator, she emphasized the unique perspective she carried into Milano–Cortina — this time observing from the stands and engaging behind the scenes.

During her stay in Milan, Dr. Csisztu focused on strengthening professional relationships essential for the future of sports journalism and the International Sports Press Association (AIPS). She held high-level discussions with key figures within the international sports movement.

In Milan, Dr. Csisztu met with Spyros Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committees and a distinguished former water polo athlete. Their discussions focused on the organizational experience of the Milano–Cortina Olympics, key sports governance matters, and preparations for the upcoming EOC General Assembly scheduled to take place in Budapest this June, where Hungary will host representatives of the European Olympic community.

Dr. Csisztu reiterated the importance of structured dialogue between sports leaders and sports journalists, stressing that AIPS must maintain an active presence in high-level sports diplomacy forums.

On the sidelines of the Games, Dr. Csisztu also met with Mustapha Berraf, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA). She briefed President Berraf on her recent engagement with AIPS Africa in The Gambia and the outcomes of the continental congress, which emphasized strengthening cooperation between the Olympic Movement and sports journalism across Africa.

The meeting underscored the interconnected nature of sport, Olympic institutions, and global sports media, with a shared commitment to ensuring stronger African representation within international sports journalism platforms.

As the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games formally conclude, Dr. Csisztu returns with renewed inspiration, strengthened partnerships, and reinforced commitment ahead of the upcoming AIPS presidential election on April 12.

Her candidacy centers on fostering a stronger global network of sports journalists, greater visibility for the profession, and a more equitable and representative international sports media community.

With respect and friendship,
Dr Zsuzsa Csisztu
AIPS Vice President | AIPS Presidential Candidate
