KARAK: Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak hosted a one-day training workshop on “Understanding Media & Information Literacy: A Practical Approach Towards Digital Journalism.” The event, organized by the university’s Media Section and ORIC in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Karak and the District Youth Office, saw active participation from local journalists and media professionals. The workshop was specifically designed to equip local journalists with essential skills and knowledge in the evolving media landscape. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khalily attended as a special guest, emphasizing the critical role of journalists as the “eyes and ears of society” and highlighting their increased responsibilities in the modern era. He underscored the importance of providing local journalists with the latest media skills and knowledge to navigate the digital age effectively. The Vice Chancellor commended the collaborative efforts of the Media Section, ORIC, the District Youth Officer, and the Deputy Commissioner’s Office for organizing such a valuable initiative, noting that these programs help journalists stay updated with contemporary practices. Dr. Anwar Mehsud (Lecturer, CMS) and Shabeer Ullah (Lecturer/PRO) served as resource persons, delivering insightful lectures on important topics such as media literacy, identifying fake news, utilizing digital tools, and upholding journalistic ethics. District Youth Officer Kamran Ullah and the Deputy Commissioner’s Office were instrumental in supporting the workshop. Mr Kamran Ullah reiterated that training young journalists is a top priority for his office and committed to organizing similar programs in the future. The workshop also featured an engaging Questions and Answers session, allowing participants to pose practical questions and share their professional experiences. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to all participants, along with honorary shields presented to the special guest and the District Youth Officer. In his closing remarks, Media In-charge Shabeer Ullah extended gratitude to all attendees and expressed confidence that the workshop would significantly benefit their fieldwork. He also announced plans for continued organization of such valuable training sessions in the future.
