ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of World Maritime Day 2026, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, NI(M), NI(M), T.Bt, extended greetings to the people of Pakistan and the global maritime community.
In his message, the Naval Chief particularly appreciated the dedication and contributions of seafarers, fishermen and coastal communities, saying their services are vital to maritime connectivity, prosperity and Pakistan’s economy.
He said Pakistan’s coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone offer vast opportunities in shipping, shipbuilding, ship recycling, fisheries, coastal resources, energy, tourism and other maritime economic activities. Realizing this potential requires a safe, secure and sustainable maritime environment, effective institutional oversight, responsible practices and continued investment.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf noted that this year’s World Maritime Day theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence,” highlights the importance of translating strategies, laws and international commitments into meaningful action.
He said the Pakistan Navy remains committed to safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime interests and is playing its role in ensuring a safe and stable maritime environment. Along with continuous surveillance of maritime areas, protection of sea trade routes and contribution to regional maritime security, the Navy is working to create a conducive environment for maritime trade and other economic activities.
The Naval Chief stressed that sustainable development of Pakistan’s maritime sector requires a collective national approach, including greater maritime awareness, protection of the marine environment and responsible use of maritime resources. He also emphasized stronger cooperation among government institutions, industry, academia, research organizations and coastal communities.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to supporting national efforts for sustainable maritime development and fulfilling relevant national and international responsibilities. He expressed hope that World Maritime Day 2026 would encourage practical action to transform Pakistan’s maritime aspirations into opportunities for the development and prosperity of the country and its people.
