SWAT: Deputy Commissioner Swat, Saleem Jan Marwat, in an exclusive interview with Daily Times , held a detailed discussion on the promotion of tourism in Swat district, restoration of roads after recent snowfall, elimination of encroachments, protection of the Swat River, and strengthening of the local economy.

He said that during and after the recent snowfall, the district administration ensured timely cleaning and restoration of highways and link roads in close coordination with the Upper Swat Development Authority, National Highways Authority, Communication and Works Department (C&W), relevant TMAs, and other line departments. As a result, public movement and tourist access were restored to the maximum extent possible.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that Swat is a major tourist hub for both domestic and foreign visitors. Promotion of tourism not only projects a positive image of the region but also plays a vital role in stabilizing the local economy. In this regard, hotel owners have been directed to ensure quality services, cleanliness, and a tourist-friendly environment.

Discussing environmental protection, he said that the district administration has launched strict action against illegal encroachments along the Swat River to restore its natural state and prevent future environmental hazards. He added that channelization work on the Swat River is in progress and is expected to be completed within a year.

Highlighting local agricultural potential, Deputy Commissioner Saleem Jan Marwat said that Swat’s high-quality fruits, vegetables and other local food products are not only the district’s identity but also a key source of economic strength. Promoting these products, he said, can create employment opportunities and improve livelihoods at the grassroots level.

Concluding, he emphasized that promoting Swat’s natural beauty, tourism potential and economic development remains his top priority. He said Swat has immense tourism and economic potential, which is being enhanced through a systematic and sustainable development strategy.
