CM Sohail Afridi Briefs World Bank President on Reform Agenda
World Bank Support Sought for Health, Education, Climate Projects

ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi met World Bank President Ajay Banga in Islamabad, where both sides held detailed discussions on enhancing cooperation in key sectors including health, education and skills development, minerals, energy, and climate resilience.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government highly values its long-standing cooperation with the World Bank and is keen to further strengthen this partnership for sustainable development in the province.
Sohail Afridi stated that health and education are the top priorities of the provincial government and significant investments are being made in these sectors. He said the government is actively strengthening the primary healthcare system to ensure improved access to quality health services for citizens.
The Chief Minister announced the launch of the “Ehsaas Maa” program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under which the government will take responsibility for the complete care of the mother and child from pregnancy to birth. He added that in the case of the birth of a girl child, an additional three months of support will be provided.
He further informed that universal health coverage is being extended to 100 percent of the province’s population, ensuring equitable healthcare access for all.

Highlighting climate challenges, Sohail Afridi said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has suffered severe losses due to natural disasters, and therefore investment in climate resilience is being increased to mitigate future risks.
Referring to the mineral sector, the Chief Minister said that in line with Imran Khan’s vision, the interests of the local population are being given first priority. He added that steps are also being taken under a comprehensive strategy to make the province self-sufficient in food production.
He disclosed that several projects are underway in the southern districts to convert barren lands into cultivable areas, particularly for Kabul crops.
Advisor to Finance Muzammil Aslam, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, and other relevant officials were also present in the meeting.
