Peshawar:
Anwar Sultan, General Secretary of the Provincial Nursing Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has stated that the paid internship for BSN graduate nursing officers from government nursing colleges in the province has been significantly delayed, causing hundreds of nurses to face serious difficulties and professional uncertainty.
Anwar Sultan explained that the paid internship is an essential and fundamental component of the BSN nursing program. Without it, graduate nurses cannot complete their professional registration, nor are they eligible to serve in practical healthcare settings. The prolonged delay is wasting nurses’ valuable time, increasing their frustration, and putting their professional future in uncertainty.
He added that government hospitals in the province are currently facing unusually high patient loads and a severe shortage of nursing staff. The lack of nurses in emergency departments, wards, and other critical areas is negatively affecting patient care and treatment standards. In this situation, the immediate commencement of paid internships for BSN graduate nursing officers is crucial, as it would not only help fill the shortage of nursing staff but also provide practical experience to young graduates.
Anwar Sultan urged the provincial government not to let administrative delays harm trained nursing graduates or the needs of hospitals. He called for immediate orders to launch the paid internship program for BSN graduate nurses and for clear instructions to be issued to all relevant institutions so that nurses’ valuable time is not further wasted and the province’s healthcare system can be made more effective.
He expressed hope that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will consider the seriousness of this important issue and take prompt and positive action.
