KARACHI: The launch ceremony of “Before the Sirens Came,” an English-language work by 13-year-old emerging author Syeda Minsa Zehra, was held at the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, in a dignified and well-attended gathering. Prominent literary and intellectual figures of the city graced the occasion and warmly acknowledged the young author’s creative journey.

The event was moderated by Dr Saleem Mughal. Dr Sajid Hussain attended as Chief Guest, while the ceremony was presided over by renowned scholar and writer Sehar Ansari. Among those who addressed the audience were Usman Jami, Dr Sabir Abu Maryam, and other distinguished members of the literary fraternity.

Speakers, in their remarks, described Syeda Minsa Zehra’s intellectual maturity, choice of subject, and command of expression as remarkable for her age. They observed that such a thoughtful and composed voice emerging so early in life is a welcome addition to Pakistan’s literary landscape. Addressing a sensitive and deeply human theme such as Palestine, they noted, reflects not only courage but also a promising literary sensibility in the making.

In her address, Syeda Minsa Zehra shared the motivations behind writing the book, stating that the cause of Palestine has long formed part of her moral and intellectual upbringing. She attributed her achievement entirely to the guidance and encouragement of her parents and teachers, including Dr Fatima Hasan, Dr Syed Shahid Raza, Muhammad Abbas Zaidi, Professor Nisar Sheikh, Abid Sheikh, Aftab Mirani, poet Qaiser Abbas Qaiser, writer Rizwan Naqvi, and others.

The preface of the book reflects a profound emotional connection with Palestine, shaped by family values and a growing awareness of global realities. Through her writing, the author foregrounds hope, resilience, and the enduring power of memory.

The ceremony concluded with collective good wishes for Syeda Minsa Zehra’s future, with speakers expressing hope that she will continue to enrich the literary world and bring pride to Pakistan through her words.
