MUZAFFARABAD: The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has rejected allegations that security forces opened fire on protesters during the recent Rawalakot incident, calling the claims unverified, misleading, and part of an organized disinformation campaign.
In its response to a BBC report, the government stated that armed members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee attacked security personnel, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several officials and the burning of multiple vehicles. It said security forces acted only to maintain law and order and did not target civilians.
The government also denied allegations of indiscriminate firing, the use of snipers, and withholding bodies from families. It maintained that law enforcement personnel exercised restraint and professionalism while carrying out their constitutional duties. According to the statement, the banned Joint Awami Action Committee is proscribed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, and all legal action against it is being taken in accordance with the law.
