PESHAWAR: Advisor to the KP Chief Minister on Finance, Muzzammil Aslam, while addressing participants at a pre-budget session, said that women police stations should be established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and that all departments must work collectively for the welfare of transgender persons and persons with disabilities, assuring that these initiatives will be supported in the upcoming budget.
The event was organized by Awaaz Do and the Omar Asghar Khan Foundation. The session was attended by Chairperson of the Women Caucus Sumaira Shams, former Chairperson Rakhshanda Naz, Waqas Paracha PFM Advisor, Dr. Yasmin Zaidi, Team Lead Aawaz II, Shabina, Provincial Lead Aawaz II, Rashida Dhohad, Executive Director, officials from various government departments, and representatives of marginalized communities.
Muzzammil Aslam stated that dedicated wards or beds should be allocated for transgender persons in hospitals. He further shared that the previous budget of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amounted to Rs. 2,119 billion.
He said that in 2024, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provided a Rs. 10,000 Ramzan package. In 2025, other provinces followed KP’s initiative, and this year KP has announced a Ramzan package of Rs. 12,500 compared to Punjab’s Rs. 10,000.
He added that persons with disabilities and transgender individuals can register to access facilities in schools, and that women should step beyond quota limitations and work alongside men.
Muzzammil Aslam further stated that the budget of the Benazir Income Support Programme has reached Rs. 800 billion, while the federal government’s development budget stands at Rs. 1,000 billion. He emphasized that poor families must be supported by the government, though improvements are needed in the mechanism of assistance.He endorsed the recommendations presented during the pre-budget session for marginalized segments and stated that the relevant departments should submit their proposals to the Finance Department so that the provision of the required resources could be reviewed.
