MARDAN: The University of Engineering and Technology Mardan celebrated the successful completion of one year of visionary leadership by Vice Chancellor Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan during a special ceremony attended by faculty members, officers, and staff. The event marked a significant milestone reflecting academic growth, research advancement, innovation, and the university’s commitment to preparing future-ready engineers for Pakistan.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan highlighted the university’s major achievements over the past year and presented a comprehensive roadmap for the future. He emphasized that UET Mardan remains focused on strengthening quality education, promoting industry-driven learning, encouraging research and innovation, and preparing students to become future problem-solvers and nation-builders.

Research, Innovation and International Collaboration

During the past year, UET Mardan strengthened its academic and research profile at both national and international levels. The university actively participated as an academic partner in the 20th International Conference on Emerging Technologies, showcasing its growing role in technological innovation, research, and global academic engagement.

The university also organized and participated in several academic and thought-leadership activities aimed at positioning UET Mardan as a hub for technology, applied research, and modern learning systems.

Expanding International Outreach

As part of its internationalization strategy, Vice Chancellor Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan visited Africa to explore collaborative opportunities with the African Centre for Technology Studies and other research institutions. The visit focused on building partnerships in climate resilience, sustainable engineering, artificial intelligence, water management, and innovation-driven education.

The collaboration is expected to create opportunities for joint research projects, academic exchange programs, workshops, collaborative supervision, and multinational innovation initiatives for both students and faculty members.

AI Readiness and Digital Transformation

UET Mardan also hosted an International Two-Day Conference on the evolution of Artificial Intelligence in higher education. The conference brought together academics, policymakers, industry experts, and higher education leaders to discuss the opportunities, challenges, myths, and ethical dimensions of AI integration in academia.

The Vice Chancellor stressed the importance of responsible AI adoption to improve teaching, research, and institutional management while maintaining academic excellence.

Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Innovation and entrepreneurship remained central to the university’s progress. Through its ORIC Directorate, UET Mardan organized consultative workshops including “Explore Your Entrepreneurial Potential” and “AI Innovation: Student Project Portfolio & Development,” enabling students to refine ideas, present projects, and receive mentorship from experts and industry partners.

These initiatives helped transform student concepts into practical, startup-oriented solutions with real-world impact.

Partnerships for Sustainability and Smart Solutions

The university further strengthened its collaboration agenda through several strategic partnerships promoting sustainable engineering and applied research.

Key agreements included:

* MoU with Kado Auto Pvt. Ltd. for clean mobility, climate action, and technological innovation.
* MoU with the Progressive Climate Foundation for sustainability research, environmental awareness, and youth empowerment.
* MoU with the International Water Management Institute under the WRAP Program for climate-smart water management, drought resilience, smart irrigation, and early warning systems in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

These partnerships aim to strengthen commercialization, capacity building, research linkages, and technology transfer.

Community Service and Social Responsibility

Beyond academics, UET Mardan also demonstrated strong community engagement through various social initiatives. These included participation in flood relief and rehabilitation activities, establishment of clean energy and water-testing support facilities, and organizing a blood donation camp in tribute to national martyrs during Independence Day celebrations.

Student clubs and societies also continued promoting integrity, inclusivity, and youth engagement through value-based campus activities.

National Recognition and Accreditation

The year brought significant institutional recognition as the Department of Computer Science received accreditation from the National Computing Education Accreditation Council for the relevant intake years, reflecting the department’s commitment to quality education and academic standards.

In another major achievement, UET Mardan students secured First Prize in the “Best Project Competition – Overall Pakistan” at DataFest 2025, highlighting the university’s growing strength in innovation and research-based problem solving.

Future Priorities

While celebrating the successful completion of one year, Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan reaffirmed the university’s future priorities, including strengthening industry-academia partnerships, enhancing research infrastructure, advancing AI readiness and digital transformation, addressing climate change through sustainable engineering, and expanding opportunities for student entrepreneurship and development.

He also reiterated the university’s commitment to inclusivity, gender empowerment, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure impactful and future-oriented education.

To commemorate the occasion, a cake-cutting ceremony was also held where participants extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Vice Chancellor. The ceremony reflected the spirit of unity, progress, and collective dedication toward academic excellence at UET Mardan.
