GHIZER: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engineer Amir Muqam has said that the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme is a merit-based initiative aimed at empowering youth through modern education, research, and digital skills.

He expressed these views while addressing the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme ceremony at Karakoram International University Ghizer Campus.

The Federal Minister described Ghizer as the “Valley of Martyrs,” saying that the region has rendered great sacrifices for the defense of the country. He paid tribute to the martyrs and said their bravery and patriotism will always be remembered.

He said the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan possess immense talent and have proven their abilities in education, sports, civil services, and other fields. He added that the federal government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is taking concrete steps to provide equal opportunities for development, education, and technology.

Amir Muqam said the laptop scheme is completely based on merit and is designed to support hardworking and talented students so they can contribute to research, innovation, and digital development.

Highlighting development initiatives, he mentioned projects including the 100 MW solar project, Safe City projects, Danish schools, youth business loans, and infrastructure schemes, saying these reflect the government’s commitment to Gilgit-Baltistan’s progress.

He also praised Pakistan’s positive diplomatic role and acknowledged the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the armed forces for safeguarding national interests.

The Federal Minister announced a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 for students presenting a patriotic tableau during the ceremony.

Earlier, Amir Muqam was warmly welcomed at the campus, where he also planted a sapling and was briefed by the Vice Chancellor regarding academic activities. The event was attended by faculty members, students, and political representatives.
