Province Report
ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of Peace and Justice Human Rights Organization (PJHRO), Syed Numan-ud-Din Advocate, has expressed grave concern and strong condemnation over the hours-long unannounced load shedding continuing even after Eid-ul-Adha in various areas of Peshawar, including Ejaz Abad, Gulbahar, Shaheen Muslim Town, Haji Camp, Sethi Town, and Ring Road. He stated that the poor performance and irresponsible attitude of PESCO (Peshawar Electric Supply Company) have made life miserable for the citizens. Due to continuous power outages, freezers and cooling systems have failed, causing sacrificial meat to spoil and inflicting heavy financial losses on the public.
He highlighted that hours of unannounced load shedding during intense summer heat is causing severe distress to women, children, the elderly, and patients. Business activities are being paralyzed, acute water shortages are emerging in mosques and homes, and students and ordinary citizens are suffering from mental and physical agony. Depriving people of a basic facility like electricity is a direct violation of fundamental human rights and constitutes gross negligence on the part of the concerned authorities.
Syed Numan-ud-Din Advocate pointed out that PESCO management is consistently ignoring public grievances. Consequently, a petition is being filed in the Peshawar High Court to ensure justice for the affected citizens and to legally bind the relevant institutions to fulfill their constitutional obligations.
He issued a stern warning to PESCO officials, stating that if the unannounced load shedding is not halted immediately and public grievances are not addressed, citizens will surround and stage protests outside PESCO offices. The PESCO administration will be held entirely responsible for any consequences arising from such a situation.
The PJHRO Chairman demanded that the Federal Government, the Ministry of Energy, and top PESCO officials take immediate notice of this critical issue faced by the residents of Peshawar and ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity.
