PESHAWAR: The University of Lahore emerged as champions of the All Pakistan Inter-University Women’s Football Championship after delivering an impressive performance throughout the tournament. In a thrilling final, the University of Lahore defeated Women University Lahore 2-1 to lift the trophy.
The championship was organized by the Directorate of Sports Islamia College Peshawar, at the Peshawar Board Ground. Eight university teams from across the country participated in the event, including Lahore College for Women University, Superior University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore, University of Lahore, Garrison University, Government College University Lahore and Punjab University Lahore.
The final was contested between the University of Lahore and Women University Lahore. Both teams were level at 1-1 by the end of the first half. However, in the closing moments of the second half, the University of Lahore scored the decisive goal to secure a 2-1 victory and claim the championship title.
In the third-place playoff, Punjab University Lahore defeated UMT Lahore 3-1 to finish third in the tournament.
Brigadier Mubashir Abbasi was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and distributed trophies, medals and prizes among the winning teams and outstanding players. Malik Latif, CCO North West Hospital, Peshawar Board Director Sports Manzar Khan, former Pakistan football captain Colonel (R) Nauman, Director Sports Islamia College Peshawar Ali Hoti and other distinguished guests were also present on the occasion.
The five-day championship was formally inaugurated by Higher Education Commission Executive Director Professor Dr. Zia-ul-Haq. Participants and guests appreciated Islamia College Peshawar and the organizing administration for the successful conduct of the event and termed such competitions a positive step towards the promotion of women’s sports in the country.
