PESHAWAR: The Independence Day Football Tournament officially began at Tahmas Khan Stadium under the auspices of the Regional Sports Office Peshawar. Regional Sports Officer Peshawar Ahmad Zaman inaugurated the event by kicking off the opening match.

The opening ceremony was attended by National Junior Football Team Coach Muhammad Arshad, Pakistan Mini Football Federation President Malik Hidayat-ul-Haq, football officials, players, and sports enthusiasts.

Organized under the supervision of the District Football Association Peshawar, the tournament features teams from across the district and aims to promote football while providing young players with an opportunity to showcase their talent as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Ahmad Zaman said sports play a vital role in encouraging youth towards healthy activities, promoting discipline, and fostering a positive mindset. He added that such events help develop football in Peshawar and bring emerging talent into the spotlight.

The tournament matches will continue over the coming days, with the grand final scheduled to be played on August 13.
