PROVINCE REPORT
ISLAMABAD: H.E. Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, Governor of Sindh Province, today visited the Rwanda High Commission in Islamabad, where he was received by H.E. Fatou Harerimana, High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The visit was undertaken on a reciprocal basis following H.E. Fatou Harerimana’s visit to the Governor House in Karachi in April 2026. The engagement reflects the growing political and diplomatic interaction between Rwanda and Pakistan, while highlighting the increasing importance of provincial-level cooperation in strengthening bilateral relations.
During the meeting, H.E. Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi and H.E. High Commissioner Fatou Harerimana held a tête-à-tête discussion on opportunities to further strengthen Rwanda–Pakistan relations, with particular emphasis on trade, investment, business cooperation and diplomatic engagement. Particular attention was given to the potential role of the Government of Sindh in facilitating stronger commercial relations between Sindh and Rwanda. Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing private-sector linkages and creating greater opportunities for businesses from both countries to explore new markets, establish partnerships and pursue investment opportunities.
The discussions also highlighted the strategic economic importance of Karachi as Pakistan’s principal commercial and maritime gateway. Karachi’s port infrastructure plays an important role in Rwanda’s trade interests, particularly in facilitating the movement of Pakistani products destined for Rwanda, including rice, pharmaceutical products, and medical and surgical equipment. At the same time, Karachi serves as an important maritime entry point for Rwandan tea destined for the Pakistani market. Enhanced cooperation with the Government of Sindh could therefore contribute to improved trade facilitation, logistics, shipping connectivity and private-sector engagement, supporting the efficiency and competitiveness of Rwanda–Pakistan commercial exchanges.
The Governor’s engagement and commitment to strengthening trade and commercial relations provide a positive foundation for continued cooperation between the Government of Sindh, the Rwanda High Commission and business communities in both countries. The visit carries significance beyond diplomatic engagement, as it presents an opportunity to translate political goodwill into practical economic cooperation in areas including trade, investment, logistics, pharmaceuticals, medical and surgical equipment, rice, tea and other sectors of mutual interest.
The engagement is particularly timely as preparations continue for the Rwanda–Pakistan Business Forum scheduled to take place in Kigali in September 2026. The Forum is expected to bring together businesses, investors and institutional stakeholders from both countries to explore investment opportunities, establish partnerships and promote the expansion of bilateral trade.
The visit by H.E. Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, Governor of Sindh, marks a positive step toward strengthening Rwanda–Sindh economic and commercial relations and contributes to the broader objective of deepening bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Rwanda and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
