ISLAMABAD: Turkmenistan has outlined its key priorities for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, focusing on peace, security, preventive diplomacy, sustainable development and international cooperation.
The country plans to promote a 2027–2037 UN Decade of Dialogue and Preventive Diplomacy and propose a UN Group of Friends of Multilateralism and Sovereign Equality of States. It will also advance initiatives on peace and neutrality, including consultations on establishing a University of Peace and Neutrality.
Digital cooperation will feature prominently, with Turkmenistan proposing an international code on the peaceful use of artificial intelligence in international relations and diplomacy.
On sustainable development, the country will support sustainable transport connectivity, trade logistics and a proposed transregional transport corridor linking South and Central Asia with Europe through the Caspian Sea.
Turkmenistan will also promote climate cooperation through an Ashgabat Climate Dialogue, initiatives on drought and water scarcity, and efforts to strengthen stable energy connectivity.
Humanitarian priorities include women’s and youth participation in peace initiatives, while the country will continue promoting international law and has proposed declaring 2028 the Year of International Law.
Turkmenistan will remain active in ECOSOC for 2026–2028 and is preparing to seek election to the UN Security Council for the 2031–2032 term.
