DHAKA: The first batch of 42 Bangladeshi students departed for Pakistan to pursue higher education under the second phase of the Pakistan-Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor.
The students were seen off by Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. They have been awarded fully funded Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships to pursue undergraduate, master’s and PhD programmes at leading Pakistani universities.
The scholarship programme is aimed at strengthening educational cooperation and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Under its first phase, 74 Bangladeshi students joined leading Pakistani universities last year.
Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Imran Haider wished the students success in their academic pursuits. He expressed confidence that the scholars would play a positive role in the development of Bangladesh and contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.
He said the students would also serve as an important bridge between the peoples of Pakistan and Bangladesh, further promoting mutual understanding, academic collaboration and people-to-people contacts.
The departure of the second-phase scholars marks another step in expanding educational exchanges between Pakistan and Bangladesh and providing Bangladeshi students opportunities to study at leading Pakistani institutions.
