D I Khan : Traders and industrialists have expressed concern over delays in the completion of flyover and drainage projects in Dera Ismail Khan, saying the prolonged construction work has disrupted business activities and caused difficulties for the general public.
A meeting of the Central Anjuman-e-Tajran was held under the chairmanship of President Sohail Ahmad Azmi and hosted by Patron-in-Chief Haji Kafeel Ahmad Nizami at a local hotel.
Speaking at the meeting, Kafeel Ahmad Nizami, Sohail Ahmad Azmi, Khalid Hussain, Irfan Mughal and Muhammad Rehan demanded the early completion of flyover projects, drainage systems in bazaars and repair and construction of roads.
They said delays in civic projects were creating serious problems for a city with a population of around 2.5 million. They also called for improved facilities at DHQ Hospital Dera Ismail Khan and Mufti Mehmood Hospital.
The traders demanded relaxation in Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) tax policies, saying heavy taxes on essential commodities and businesses were increasing prices and putting pressure on consumers and traders. They also called for measures to reduce load shedding and address alleged corruption in public institutions.
The participants demanded that the CPEC route be made safer for travel during night hours, along with effective measures for maintaining law and order and combating terrorism.
The traders also criticised what they described as excessive traffic fines and harassment of the public, calling for a review of the traffic enforcement system.
They further demanded measures to resolve issues concerning the Dera Ismail Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and urged that its affairs be managed transparently.
At the conclusion, prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the martyrs of the Darazinda suicide attack and trader leader Haji Amin alias Lala Jani, who recently passed away.
