ISLAMABAD: Following the devastating floods, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, on Tuesday appealed for immediate relief during a high-level meeting at the Ministry with international organizations and national NGOs.
Addressing representatives of key international organizations and national NGOs, Engineer Amir Muqam said that he had personally visited several flood-affected areas and had witnessed the scale of destruction firsthand.
He said, “Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes, and vital community infrastructure has been severely damaged.”
The Federal Minister stressed the urgent need for immediate and coordinated efforts in relief and rehabilitation operations.
He said, “We acknowledge the contributions of international organizations and national NGOs during past crises. Today, once again, we appeal to you for urgent support in restoring livelihoods, rebuilding homes, and rehabilitating community infrastructure.”
“We need your partnership, technical expertise, and resources to help rebuild lives and communities. Together, we can become a beacon of hope for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other affected regions.”
UN Resident Coordinator, Muhammad Yahya, addressing the meeting, assured the UN’s support in the flood-related relief efforts.
“We stand with the people of Pakistan in this difficult time,” he said.
Representatives from UNHCR, IRC, IOM, GiZ, UNICEF, Malteser International, Save the Children, Action Against Hunger, Muslim Hands, Hashoo Foundation, and Relief International were among those present at the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by Ministry Secretary Zafar Hasan, Chief Commissioner for Afghan Refugees Ismatullah Shah, and other senior government officials.
During the session, participants were also shown video footage of the damages caused by the floods in various regions.
International organizations and national NGOs expressed strong commitment to supporting the rehabilitation of flood-affected communities.
