Water inflows and outflows at Head Khanki on the Chenab reached 564,172 cusecs, says FFD

LAHORE: The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) on Wednesday reported exceptionally high flood levels at Head Marala, Head Khanki and Qadirabad on the River Chenab, at Head Sidhnai on the River Ravi, and at Ganda Singh Wala on the River Sutlej. According to the FFD, water inflows and outflows at Head Khanki on the Chenab have reached 564,172 cusecs, while Qadirabad is recording 530,537 cusecs. At Head Marala, inflows stand at 465,132 cusecs with outflows of 463,635 cusecs. The report added that the River Ravi is facing an exceptionally high flood at Head Sidhnai, where inflows are 160,580 cusecs and outflows 157,580 cusecs. Meanwhile, the Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is witnessing inflows and outflows of 319,295 cusecs. High flood conditions have also been reported at Balloki on the Ravi with inflows and outflows of 114,130 cusecs, and at Sulaimanki on the Sutlej with 132,492 cusecs. A high flood in the Chenab River at Head Qadirabad has inundated more than 35 villages around Hafizabad, said the Deputy Commissioner on Thursday. According to the Flood Control Room, water inflow and outflow at the site has been recorded at 557,440 cusecs. The Deputy Commissioner confirmed that a protective embankment at Kot Saleem has developed a breach which has expanded to nearly 1,000 feet, raising fears of further flooding in surrounding areas. Relief efforts are under way as authorities continue to closely monitor the situation.
