Peshawar: The Diocesan of Peshawar, a major religious institution of the Christian community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has expressed a clear and strong stance regarding unity, discipline, and constitutional supremacy. During the Diocesan Council meeting held on March 23, a large number of representatives from across the province participated, including 122 members and approximately 50 observers.
The meeting was chaired by Bishop Sarfraz Peters, in whom full confidence was expressed by the participants. Attendees reaffirmed their commitment to continue efforts for the welfare, development, and unity of Christians in the province, aiming toward a positive and stable future.
An important announcement regarding the election of the Bishop was also made during the meeting. According to the decision, the election process will begin at the end of April 2026. All members agreed on this decision and expressed their determination to ensure a transparent and organized process.
The council also held a detailed discussion on the current constitutional situation of the Church of Pakistan. Participants emphasized that certain actions taken after 1970 contradict the church’s original constitution, which has negatively impacted the unity of the institution. In this context, the Diocesan of Peshawar expressed concern over the existing divisions within the Church of Pakistan and announced a vote of no confidence in the Synod and relevant office bearers.
During the meeting, attempts by external elements to create division within the Christian community were strongly condemned. The participants urged the concerned authorities to take immediate notice of the matter and take action against those responsible.
At the conclusion of the meeting, special prayers were offered for the country’s progress, interfaith harmony, and global peace on the occasion of March 23. It was emphasized that Christians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will continue to move forward with unity, discipline, and a positive mindset, which is a guarantee of a strong and bright future.
