PESHAWAR: On the completion of one year of the victory of the Battle of Haq, a grand exhibition hockey match was organized between the senior and junior teams of Islamia College University at the Islamia College Hockey Turf in Peshawar.
Commander 102 Brigade Brigadier Mubashir Ahmad Abbasi was the chief guest on the occasion. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ahmadur Rehman Saljuqi, international hockey umpire manager Faiz Muhammad Faizi, Director Sports Ali Hoti, President Asian Sports Journalists Federation Amjad Aziz Malik, Olympian Rahim Khan, international hockey player Rauf Khan and a large number of players, students and sports personalities attended the event to pay tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces.
The chief guest was introduced to the players and later distributed trophies among the winning and runner-up teams. The thrilling exhibition match witnessed excellent teamwork and high-quality hockey from both sides. After a tough contest, the senior team of Islamia College University defeated the junior team by 4-3.
Addressing the ceremony, Brigadier Mubashir Ahmad Abbasi said that sports play a vital role in personality development, discipline, tolerance and national unity among the youth. He said hockey is the national game of Pakistan and young players can bring pride to the country through dedication, hard work and consistency.
He congratulated the organizers for arranging the match on the first anniversary of the Battle of Haq and paid tribute to Olympians and international players. He also appreciated the administration of Islamia College University for hosting the event.
He said the Battle of Haq was not only a military success but also a symbol of national unity, determination and patriotism. He added that the sacrifices of martyrs and ghazis had strengthened the peace, dignity and stability of Pakistan.
At the end of the event, players and participants raised slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” to express solidarity with the armed forces and the nation.
