PESHAWAR: The long-pending land compensation issue involving provincial universities in Mardan has reached a major milestone following coordinated efforts by the Higher Education Department, government officials, and stakeholders.
Special Secretary Higher Education Fazal Hussain, who chaired the Cabinet-constituted subcommittee, presented a detailed report covering the history of the land acquisition, legal proceedings, administrative developments, and recommendations prepared after extensive consultations.
The recommendations were reviewed at a high-level meeting chaired by Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam. The meeting was attended by Higher Education Minister Meena Khan, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Finance Muzammil Aslam, MPA Zahir Shah Toru, UET Mardan Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan, the Deputy Commissioner Mardan, Commissioner Mardan Division, and senior officials from the Higher Education and Law Departments.
Participants were informed that the recommendations were developed after thorough legal, financial, and administrative consultations to ensure a fair, transparent, and lawful settlement of the long-standing compensation issue.
After reviewing the proposals, the committee decided to proceed with the case in accordance with applicable legal procedures and financial regulations.
Officials said the progress reflects strong institutional coordination and cooperation, paving the way for a lasting resolution of one of the province’s most significant land compensation cases while safeguarding the interests of public universities, the government, and affected landowners.
