PESHAWAR: Muhammad Asif Orakzai has officially stepped down from his position as head of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Swimming Association, revealing that the decision had been under consideration for the past two years.

“I wanted to hand over this responsibility to someone more suitable, so I suggested the name of Khalid, Commissioner Bannu,” Orakzai stated. “Although he was hesitant initially, he finally accepted, and I am confident that the association is now in safe hands.”
He expressed hope that the newly formed cabinet would soon organize events to maintain the association’s momentum and visibility.

Newly elected President Khalid Mahmood expressed gratitude for Orakzai’s cooperation and acknowledged his pivotal role in developing the swimming scene in the province.
“Asif Sahib played a significant role in strengthening the swimming association,” Khalid said. “There should be no hindrance in any sport, because long gaps weaken athletes’ muscles and impair performance.”

Khalid emphasized that the new cabinet would focus on year-round engagement, particularly by providing heated water in pools during winter.
“We are committed to offering all necessary facilities to our swimmers with sincerity, so their national performance remains strong and the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shines.”

He further underlined the importance of appointing qualified coaches for every swimmer and announced plans to approach the Chief Secretary and Director Sports for their support.
“The Directorate of Sports has been consistently supportive by appointing contract-based coaches. Now we aim to send these coaches to Lahore for international-level training, so they can better guide our athletes.”

Additionally, Khalid vowed to improve the hygienic conditions of swimming pools, with an emphasis on daily water filtration and facility upgrades.
“This is vital to ensure a safe, healthy environment for the players to train and thrive.”

In closing, Khalid Mahmood announced that the Azadi Cup will commence on August 14, marking the first major event under the new leadership.
