PESHAWAR: Aizaz Ahmed, a researcher of Sinology and China Studies at Beijing Language and Culture University, visited China Window in Peshawar and praised the cultural centre for its contribution to promoting Chinese culture and strengthening people-to-people relations between Pakistan and China.
During his visit, Ahmed toured the centre’s various galleries and received a briefing on its cultural, educational and public diplomacy initiatives. He expressed particular interest in the Dragon Boat Festival organised by China Window earlier this year, describing it as a remarkable initiative that attracted widespread attention in both Pakistan and China.
He said that reports, photographs and videos of the Dragon Boat Festival had been read and watched by millions of people across China. The extensive media coverage generated considerable interest among Chinese audiences and also encouraged him to visit China Window personally during his stay in Peshawar.
“Today, I have come to visit the Chinese Cultural Centre in Peshawar, where a wide range of Chinese cultural programmes are regularly organised,” Ahmed said.
He noted that China Window frequently holds events marking important Chinese cultural and national occasions, including the Chinese New Year, China’s National Day and the Duanwu Festival, commonly known as the Dragon Boat Festival.
“This year, on the occasion of the Duanwu Festival, China Window organised dragon boat races that received an overwhelming response from the people of Pakistan,” he said.
Ahmed appreciated the organisers for successfully introducing an important aspect of Chinese cultural heritage to Pakistani audiences. He said such activities helped people better understand China’s traditions, history and social values while further consolidating the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
“I believe this institution is playing a highly significant role in promoting Chinese civilisation and culture in Pakistan,” he remarked.
He expressed the hope that more Chinese cultural centres would be established in different parts of Pakistan in the future so that a greater number of Pakistanis could learn about the culture and traditions of China, which he described as Pakistan’s closest and most trusted friend.
“Institutions of this nature can enable the people of Pakistan to understand Chinese culture in a more meaningful, effective and comprehensive manner,” Ahmed added.
He commended the management of China Window for its sustained efforts to promote Pakistan-China friendship through cultural events, exhibitions, educational activities and public engagement.
