ISLAMABAD:Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the expansion and activation of Civil Defence Department on priority basis. Civil Defence Punjab is sending 500 volunteers for rescue work of flood victims in KP province.

The number of volunteers is being increased from 2 thousand to 6 thousand and most of them will be salaried volunteers. Already working volunteers will be considered first in this employment.

These vies were expressed by Director Civil Defence Punjab Mr. Zaigham Nawaz in a ceremony held in Rawalpindi to celebrate his Tamgha e Imtiaz conferred by President of Pakistan on 14 Aug 2025.

Director Civil Defence Punjab Mr. Zaigham Nawaz has contributed a lot in making the department a beneficial organization for the public at the time of need. He visited Rawalpindi and attended a smart ceremony held in his honor by the District Civil Defence staff at Golf Club Marquee.

Chief Warden Raja Amir Iqbal , District Officer Talib Hussain and their contingent of volunteers was alert to welcome him. They demonstrated a well organized parade and the Director hoisted national flag. The latest equipment in the use of Rawalpindi Civil Defence was also on display.

In his address to volunteers , Director Zaigham Nawaz shared the good news that more 4 thousand volunteers will be recruited soon and the volunteers already working will be considered preferably.

The salaries are being increased to more than double. the salary at present is 17 thousand that will be increased to 34 thousand. He said that Civil Defence will be now a modern department equipped with latests technology and facilities.

He said that Volunteers can check the fire security arrangements at hotels, marquees, factories and if they are not satisfactory they can fine them from 5 lakh to 50 lakh. The courts will seriously consider the challans filed by the volunteers.

Civil Defence has acquired 10 robots from ministery of defence production. Now we have drones that can catch down enemy drones with magnetic support.

Additional Director General Parks and Harticulture Authority Khudaye Mudassar also addressed the guests. He cautioned them to beware of the black sheep in the department and do not let them spoil the credibility of this organization.

Director Zaigham Nawaz conferred the badges of Regional Warden of Chaklala upon volunteer Malik Usman. He distributed caps and shirts among the volunteers present at the occasion.
