DERA ISMAIL KHAN: On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, a rally was organized by Dera Press Club Registered under the leadership of its President Ahmed Khan Kamrani.

A large number of journalists from across the city participated in the procession, holding placards inscribed with slogans highlighting press freedom and the right to expression, emphasizing the importance of the day.

Addressing the participants, President Ahmed Khan Kamrani said that freedom of the press is the foundation of any democratic society and plays a vital role in bringing truth to light. He paid tribute to martyred journalists worldwide, especially Palestinian journalists, stating that their sacrifices will always be remembered.

He further remarked that journalism is not merely a profession but a sacred responsibility that must be carried out with integrity, courage, and impartiality. Citing global reports, he said that between January 2024 and December 2025, at least 129 journalists lost their lives in the line of duty, including 63 in Gaza due to Israeli aggression. He added that journalists have also been targeted in countries such as Ukraine, Sudan, India, and Mexico.

Former President Yasin Qureshi highlighted the challenges faced by journalists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in Dera Ismail Khan, urging relevant organizations to take practical measures for their welfare and economic stability.

Additional General Secretary Majid Burki, Jafar Zakori, and female journalist Sabiha Sheikh also addressed the gathering.

The event concluded with a detailed discussion among members regarding the issues faced by journalists, followed by tributes to those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and special prayers for their departed souls.
